Frustrated... part of the cycle...

I went to a technology conference today and realized that I walked away frustrated. I am frustrated that I do not have time to implement many of the wonderful tools and strategies presented. Frustrated at the lack of enthusiasm sometimes exhibited by the teachers in my school. Frustrated at lack of funding... Now that I have been home for a few hours, I realize that this frustration is part of a cycle I go through after every conference. There is always so much to take in, so many new and innovative ideas I want to implement... my mind swirls with ideas and plans. It is often too much to wrap my arms around, so I get FRUSTRATED!

I guess this is normal and healthy. After all, it also reminded me of how much I enjoy writing on my new blog (hence this post- after over a month of not posting). In the end even it I implement one or two new things I am better off for having atended the conference and reconnecting with colleagues.

We heard Alan November speak today... I have not heard him for many years and he was as motivational and enjoyable as I remember. He spoke of the Learing Community and what we need to do to make our students successful in "A Flat World"... The World is Flat by Thomas Friedman. I have not read the book, yet, but I assume that eventually I will.

Enough pouting... back to work!

Great post about the cycle of learning about new things and getting excited and then getting frustrated by the lack of time and money to implement! Maybe the key is to take one or two things that we can integrate over time. I think the only way change actually happens is in small increments!

You're right, Kelly, it takes time. It takes time to implement change. It is tough, but you're right, we have to adjust our attitudes and then just move ahead and change what we can - ourselves. I am going back from our technology conference here in Georgia and it is a let down when it is over. But, you're making a difference and you're doing well with your blogging. Keep it up!

Hi Kelly,

I completely understand where you are - it reflects how I feel about a few things when it comes to teachers. I'm almost wondering if we are entering a stage of teacher apathy caused by too many things overwhelming them. The teachers I see that are passionate about technology or other educational items, usually have remained focused despite the plethora of things coming at them. Also, like you, I find that I want to do more than I am able but I have learned to live with that in most areas of my life. The key, from my perspective, is to focus on those things that will give you the greatest satisfaction. Keep up the work. Know that you have joined a growing group of educators who are willing to explore, experiment and learn.

Hi, I'm not able to comment on tech because I don't understand it. I enjoy lots of things, and a good latte on a Sunday afternoon, which I'm hoping to have later today, is one of them. Also like philosophy and politics, plus those occasional artistic moments. Your blog is interesting. Take care and have a great week!
