Did You Know?

Wow! I just read a post by Karl Fisch about staff development. This is going to be a great way to start the year without getting to "heavy" when teachers' thoughts are often not on staff development, but on getting into their classrooms. I modified it to fit our school. I am so excited, it is exactly what I had in mind. Thanks to David Warlick for the lead.

I'm glad you found it useful. How'd it go when you presented your version?

I also wanted to let you know that I posted a slightly updated version as well as a list of my sources on The Fischbowl.

I have now used Karl Fisch's .ppt for 2 inservice to "kick off" a year devoted to authentic integration. Both audiences received the presentation with awe. It was incredible how quiet the room was- not usual for a lab full of teachers... The reaction after was quite mixed. One surprising reaction I heard several times was that of depression. I think they just felt defeated, and that they could never teach students in a way to prepare them for the future. Nonetheless, they enjoyed it and it made them think. (Got lots of requests for the music, too.) Thanks again to Karl Fisch for sharing this with us. Also, thanks for the sources. You really helped 2 schools get their year started on a powerful note.
